Confessions of a Dieter, 3

January 29, 2018

Do you remember trying the latest and greatest diet fads – The Fast two Days a Week Diet, The Paleo Diet and The High Protein and  Low Carb Diet with lots of soy thrown in?

Now that one was memorable.

You’d go rushing around stocking up on litres of soy milk, no more nasty cow’s milk for you – that was too fattening.

You would make your Earl Grey Tea and Stevia sweetened Hot chocolates and wince as you swallowed them down, pretending to yourself that they didn’t taste all that bad. You comforted yourself with the thought that it was going to be all right, because it would help you lose weight.

While people were enjoying their super creamy natural Greek Yoghurt, you had your tub of watery soy, to look forward to. You comforted yourself with the thought that it was going to be all right, because it would help you lose weight.

You would go out that there were be the lattes and cappuccinos, the viennas and the iced coffees frothing over with fresh whipped cream. It made you salivate, the closest you could get was to imagine what it was going to taste like, because there you were with your strawberry soy thick shake… hmm, sort of yummy. You comforted yourself with the thought that it was going to be all right, because it would help you lose weight.

Then you woke up one day and discovered to your horror that soy is packed with phytoestrogens, which tell your body to HOLD onto weight. Ahhh, all that pain and suffering was in vain. This was a naughty food and needed to be ripped off the list. No wonder I kept on those pounds….

The tip for now is - not all that glitters is gold in the world of top diet plans. Look before you leap and make sure that it has actually worked for someone else first… or else you may be headed for disaster.
