Dealing with Bullies

December 16, 2017

Everyone has come across people who want to put them down or to give them a hard time. Whether its sledging, playful banter, teasing or just plain bullying it can be awful and be causing us massive headaches.

We were not made to put up with high levels of stress for a long time, so sooner or later it will leave us feeling drained and depressed. Take the bull by horns and deal with bullying. Here are some steps to stare back at bullies and get the upper hand.

  1. Make fun of the bullying comment. So if someone tells you you’ve got big ears, laugh and say, “If you think my ears are big, you should see my nose. Ha, ha.” Laughing at yourself takes the sting away.

  2. Take the first initiative. Go up to them the next time you see them and say to them, “I don’t care what you say to me, one day we are going to be friends and go out to have coffee together and walk off.” Show them that they can’t intimidate you or spoil your day. They  can’t even sour your attitude, because no matter what  - you are going to keep on being kind and overlooking. You are going to walk about unscathed and sweet.

  3. Imagine that bully with a clowns face on and laugh out loud. They are only as big and as scary as we let them be. Deflate them with laugher.

  4. Be careful not to make yourself vulnerable with: careless posts and photos or embarrassing comments. Not everyone who sees them is your best friend. If heat is on then lay low and communicate with your friends face to face.

We can turn this whole bullying thing on its head, when we realise that WE ARE IN CONTROL of our lives and  that we don’t have to let others people, spoil our inner world.
